After a trial, the parties may find themselves before an appellate tribunal if one of the parties chooses to appeal any of the findings and rulings of the trial court.  Appeals are costly and significantly prolong the resolution of the parties' dispute.  Prior to the briefing of the issues, parties will often attempt to mediate the dispute again.
